Sweeter is not always better when it comes to chocolate. Studies show dark chocolate is loaded with flavonoids, an anti-oxidant chemical known to protect people’s hearts.
In fact, some dark chocolates contain the same amount of flavonoids found in apples, blueberries and green tea. During Valentine’s Day, when there is a surplus of chocolates to be found, dieticians recommend opting for the darkest sweet available – to benefit both ones sweet tooth and help lower cholesterol. Dieticians say dark chocolate can also prevent cell damage and reduce blood clotting, but be sure to look for brands made with at least 60 percent cocoa solids.
